ODT is LibreOffice’s own format, and LibreOffice does the conversion, so styles, tables, footnotes and images come out as you designed them.
Fonts embedded
The PDF carries its fonts. Arial, Times New Roman, Calibri and Cambria are replaced by metric-compatible fonts (Liberation, Carlito, Caladea), so line breaks stay where they were.
For people without LibreOffice
Colleagues on Word, phones and tablets often cannot open ODT properly. A PDF opens everywhere and looks identical.
Convert ODT to PDF: what to expect
OpenDocument Text is the default format of LibreOffice and OpenOffice Writer and the standard document format for many public administrations. It is an open ISO standard, but Microsoft Word and phone apps still render it imperfectly, which is why an ODT is best sent as a PDF.
If you have LibreOffice installed, File → Export as PDF does the same job. This tool is for when you do not: on a work computer without it, on a phone, or when someone sent you an ODT and you need a PDF for a form or a printer.
Comments and tracked changes are not part of the exported page content. Accept or reject changes first if the PDF should show the final text.

- Do I need LibreOffice installed?
- No. Conversion happens on our servers.
- Are footnotes, tables and images kept?
- Yes. LibreOffice exports them as laid out in the document.
- What about comments and tracked changes?
- Comments are not printed on the pages. Accept or reject tracked changes first so the PDF shows the final text.
- Can I convert ODS or ODP?
- Yes, with Excel to PDF for ODS spreadsheets and PowerPoint to PDF for ODP presentations.
- Does it count against my daily allowance?
- Yes, it uses 5 units, like the other document conversions.
