See it before you split it
Every page renders as a thumbnail. Click between two pages to add a split there; the parts update as you go. Prefer typing? A page-range field is one click away.
Extract or divide
Extract a few pages into one new file, or divide the whole document into several files. Both are the same tool with a different range list.
Nothing is re-rendered
Pages are copied, not rasterized. Text, vector graphics and links stay exactly as they were.
Split PDF into smaller documents: what to expect
Splitting solves the opposite problem from merging: one file contains more than the recipient should get. A 60-page report where a client needs only their chapter, a scanned batch of invoices that should be filed separately, or an annex you want to send without the confidential main body.
Because pages are copied rather than redrawn, the parts look identical to the original. What changes is document-level structure: outline bookmarks that point to pages outside a part are dropped from that part, and the file metadata is that of a new document.
If you only want to remove a page or two, splitting works, but Organize pages is the more direct tool. Use Split when the result should be several files.
Questions, answered
- Are the pages editable afterward?
- Splitting changes which pages are in which file, not the content of the pages. Editable text stays editable; scanned images stay images.
- How many parts can one split produce?
- Up to 20 parts per job, each as its own download.
- Can I split every page into its own file?
- Yes, within the output cap. Add a split after every page, or type one range per page in the manual field.
- Do form fields survive?
- Fields on the copied pages are kept. Calculations that referenced fields on other pages may stop working.
- What if I enter a page that does not exist?
- The range is rejected with a clear message before the job starts. Nothing is uploaded until the ranges are valid.
