Built for editing, not for pixel-perfect copies
The goal is a Word file you can keep working in: paragraphs that reflow, headings that are headings, lists that are lists.
Honest about the hard cases
Multi-column layouts, floating text boxes, formulas and decorative fonts are where every converter struggles, ours included. Simple reports, letters and contracts come out clean.
Scans get OCR first
If the PDF has no text layer, we recognise the text on our own servers first (Tesseract, twelve languages) and build the document from that. Expect to proof-read a scan.
Convert PDF to Word: what to expect
PDF was designed to look the same everywhere, and Word was designed to be edited. Converting between them means reconstructing intent from appearance: which lines form a paragraph, which bold line is a heading, which grid of text is a table. Simple documents convert cleanly. Complex ones need a human pass afterwards.
Our conversion runs on our own servers with an engine we benchmark ourselves. We are not routing your document through a third-party API or a language model. That keeps your text private and lets us tell you exactly what the engine can and cannot do.
Before relying on a converted file, check three things: tables, anything in columns, and page breaks. Those are where reconstruction most often differs from the original. For a contract you will only sign, converting is rarely worth it; for a report you will rewrite, it saves hours.
Questions, answered
- Will the layout be identical?
- No converter can promise that. Text, headings, lists and simple tables usually come through well. Columns, text boxes and unusual fonts may need adjusting.
- Does it work on scanned PDFs?
- Yes. When a PDF has no text layer we run OCR on it first, on our own servers, then build the Word file from the recognised text. Pick the document language for better results, and proof-read the output.
- Which Word format do I get?
- DOCX, which opens in Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages.
- Is my document sent to an AI service?
- No. Conversion runs on our own infrastructure. No third-party AI or conversion APIs are involved.
- Is this free?
- Yes, within the same daily limits as every other tool. It is heavier than merging or splitting, so larger files and higher volumes are part of Pro.
