Convert PDF pages to PNG: what to expect
Most people want JPG because it is familiar. For anything with sharp edges, PNG is the right choice: a rendered invoice, a slide with text, a wiring diagram. The files are larger, but nothing is smeared.
Resolution decides both sharpness and size. At 72 DPI a page is roughly screen-sized; at 300 DPI it is print quality and several megabytes per page. We cap output at 30 megapixels per page, which is enough for A3 at 300 DPI.
This renders whole pages. If your PDF contains a photo and you want that photo as a file, that is image extraction, a different tool.

- PNG or JPG?
- PNG for text, slides and diagrams; JPG for photographs where size matters more than perfect edges.
- Is transparency preserved?
- Pages render onto white. PDF pages have no transparent background to keep.
- Why is my PNG large?
- Lossless data at high DPI is big by nature. Drop to 150 or 72 DPI for screen use.
- How many pages at once?
- Up to 20 per job. Use ranges for the rest.
- Are fonts rendered correctly?
- Embedded fonts render exactly. PDFs that rely on missing system fonts may substitute, as any viewer would.
