Transparency handled
Transparent PNG areas are flattened onto white so the page looks the way you saw it on screen, not black or checkered.
Lossless
PNG pixels are stored losslessly inside the PDF. Sharp UI text and thin lines stay sharp.
Screen-sized pages
With “Match each image” the page takes the image’s own proportions, which suits screenshots. A4 and Letter add margins.
Convert PNG images to PDF: what to expect
PNG is what screenshots and exported charts come in. It is precise but awkward to share in bulk. Wrapping a set of PNGs into one PDF keeps the order, prints predictably and opens anywhere.
Unlike photos, screenshots suffer badly from JPEG artefacts, so we keep PNG data lossless. The trade-off is size: a PDF of many large screenshots is big. If size matters more than pixel-perfect edges, run the result through Compress PDF with image compression.
Text inside the images stays pixels. If you need searchable text from screenshots, that is an OCR job, which is a separate tool we will label clearly when it ships.
Questions, answered
- Do transparent PNGs come out black?
- No. Transparent regions are flattened onto a white background before embedding.
- Is quality reduced?
- No. PNG data is stored losslessly. File size can be large for many big images.
- Can I mix PNG and JPG?
- Yes, in one job. JPGs are embedded as they are, PNGs losslessly.
- What page size should I pick?
- “Match each image” for screenshots you will view on screen, A4 or Letter if you intend to print.
- Is the text searchable?
- No, images stay images. Use OCR for searchable text once it is available.
