Every page, in order
A multi-page TIFF from a scanner or fax becomes one PDF page per TIFF page. Several TIFF files are joined in the order you set.
No quality loss
Colour and greyscale pages are stored losslessly. Nothing is re-compressed as JPEG, so fine print and signatures stay crisp.
Compact black and white
One-bit scans and faxes stay one bit per pixel inside the PDF instead of being blown up to colour, which keeps the file small.
Convert TIFF to PDF: what to expect
TIFF is the working format of scanners, fax servers and document archives because it is lossless and can hold many pages in one file. It is also a format that email clients, phones and browsers rarely preview, which is why a scanned contract in TIFF so often comes back with “I can’t open this”.
The converter reads LZW, ZIP, PackBits, CCITT Group 3 and 4 and JPEG-compressed TIFFs. Page size follows the resolution stored in the file when you choose “Match each image”, so a 300 DPI A4 scan becomes an A4 page. Choose A4 or Letter to fit everything onto one paper size with margins.
The result is a picture of each page, just like the TIFF. To make the text searchable or copyable, run the PDF through OCR PDF afterwards. To go the other way, for a fax system or an archive that insists on TIFF, use PDF to TIFF.
Questions, answered
- Does a multi-page TIFF become several PDFs?
- No. It becomes one PDF with one page per TIFF page.
- Will the PDF be searchable?
- Not by itself. Run it through OCR PDF to add a searchable text layer.
- Is quality reduced?
- No. TIFF pages are stored losslessly; black-and-white pages stay one bit per pixel.
- What about 16-bit or CMYK TIFFs?
- They are converted to 8-bit RGB or greyscale for the PDF, which is what screens and office printers use.
- Is there a page limit?
- Up to 200 pages and 20 files per job, each file up to 100 MB.
