Remove a password from a PDF: what to expect
Statements, contracts and payslips often arrive password-protected. Once they are filed on your own machine the password is a nuisance. Unlocking makes a plain copy for your own use.
We do not and will not try to guess passwords. If you do not know it, the file stays closed, which is the whole point of encryption. The error you will see is “That password does not open this PDF”.
Some PDFs have only an owner password: they open freely but forbid copying or printing. Those unlock too, with any password or an empty one, because there is nothing to decrypt.

- Can you remove a password I do not know?
- No. This tool requires the correct password. It is not a recovery or cracking service.
- Is my password stored?
- It is encrypted for the seconds the job runs and deleted when it finishes.
- The PDF opens without a password but I cannot print. Will this help?
- Yes. Owner-only restrictions are removed; leave the password empty or type anything.
- Is the content changed?
- No. Only the encryption is removed.
- Is it legal?
- Removing protection from files you are entitled to use is normal. Do not use it on documents you have no right to open.
